Travel Details

Flights

Fly into the Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ), the best little airport in the country!

Our top tips for flights:

  • There are no direct flights to Albuquerque from the New England region.
  • If you are coming from the northeast, prepare for an ~8-10 hour travel day with one layover (typically Baltimore, Chicago, or Denver).
  • We usually fly from Boston (cheaper, but you have to drive into Boston) or Manchester (slightly more expensive, but such an easy-to-navigate airport and super convenient from Townsend).
  • Google Flights estimates the typical round trip flight from Boston is $265-$465.

Old Town/Sawmill: Historic Old Town is ABQ’s cultural center featuring charming adobe buildings, art galleries, shops & restaurants. The Sawmill District (adjacent to Old Town) is ABQ’s newest hotspot offering trendy eateries, hip bars, and three excellent museums (including the Explora Science Center!).

Nob Hill/University: Nob Hill is a lively and eclectic neighborhood with a mix of vintage shops and trendy restaurants, all along the iconic Route 66. As you proceed west down Central Avenue, Nob Hill transitions into the University of New Mexico (Emma’s alma mater!).

ABQ Uptown: Uptown is a bustling commercial and residential district with easy access to I-40, making it a convenient launch pad for a variety of ABQ activities.

Albuquerque is a vibrant city with a rich culture and friendly residents, but it can be a little rough around the edges. We advise you to avoid the International District and exercise caution when exploring Downtown (especially at night).

Transportation

Getting around Old Town

Our wedding venue is located in historic Old Town, the heart of Albuquerque’s rich history and culture. Old Town is home to 4 world-class museums, 150+ shops and art galleries, and 40+ restaurants and breweries – all within one square mile!

Getting around Albuquerque

Albuquerque is the largest city in New Mexico with a population of nearly 1 million in the greater metro area. In terms of geographic size, ABQ is 5x larger than Worcester, MA. To explore the city (which we hope you do!), access to a car is extremely helpful.

Getting around New Mexico

If you have the time, we highly recommend taking a day trip or overnight adventure outside the city. But keep in mind, New Mexico is huge! It’s the 5th largest state the the U.S. and more than 10x larger than Massachusetts.

  • Rideshare: Uber/Lyft to Old Town from the Sunport is about $30.
  • Walk: If you’re staying in Old Town, the wedding venue and a good selection of restaurants and attractions are walkable!
  • Public transit: We do not recommend taking the bus in ABQ – steer clear!
  • Car rental: The Sunport offers a variety of car rental services.
  • Rideshare: Uber/Lyft is readily available in the city and a reliable alternative to renting a car.
  • Bike: ABQ has over 400 miles of bike paths and trails! Check out the city’s interactive bike map to learn more.
  • Train: If you’d like to take a day trip to Santa Fe, the New Mexio Rail Runner is a great option. A one-way ride takes 1.5 hours and a day pass costs about $10. The State Capitol, Museum Hill, and the historic plaza are an easy stroll from the Santa Fe Depot.
  • Car rental: For all other destinations outside of ABQ, renting a car is a must.

A note to our amazing family and friends:

We are so excited for you to join us in Albuquerque!

However, we recognize that traveling to New Mexico may not be feasible for everyone.

We are also holding a post-wedding celebration in Townsend on June 7, 2025.

We would be honored to have you at one or both of these events and we encourage you to do what works best for you.
